Driver in critical condition after car hits tree in Nottinghamshire village

A man has been seriously injured after his car hit a tree.

The collision happened in the early hours of this morning (July 20) near Colston Bassett.

Nottinghamshire Police were called to Harby Lane just before 1am.

They found a man trapped inside the vehicle after the car came off the road and hit a tree.

He was released by firefighters and taken to hospital.

A spokesman for the police force said: "A man suffered serious injuries after his car left the road and hit a tree near Colston Bassett last night.

"Police were called to Harby Lane shortly before 12.45am on Monday and found a 38-year-old man trapped inside the vehicle with serious leg injuries

"He was freed from the vehicle by firefighters and taken by ambulance to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham."

The man remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 31 of 20 July.
