Man seriously injured after being struck by car on Glasgow motorway as cops launch witness appeal

A man has been seriously injured after being struck by a car on a Glasgow motorway.

The 30-year-old was walking on the M8 near Charing Cross when he was hit by a blue Renault Clio.

He was rushed to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where his condition is described as serious but stable.

The incident happened at about 11.50pm on Wednesday night, with the man walking on the eastbound side of the carriageway at Junction 17.

Emergency services were called to deal with the crash, with an ambulance conveying the man to hospital, where he remains for treatment.

The driver of the blue Renault Clio was not injured.

Police are now appealing for witnesses as they attempt to find out the circumstances surrounding the serious incident.

Sergeant David Bulloch of the Greater Glasgow road policing unit urged anyone who may have dashcam footage to come forward.

He said: "We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, especially those who have dash-cam footage, who were in the area at the time and who may have seen the collision or the man on the road prior to, to contact us.

"If you have any information that will assist officers with their enquiries, then please contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting reference number 4364 of Wednesday, 21 July, 2021."
