Man seriously injured after being struck by car in Wigan

A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car in Hindley Green.

Emergency services were scrambled to Atherton Road at around 8.15pm yesterday evening (Tuesday May 18) following the incident, near the Spinners Arms pub.

The driver remained at the scene and the man was taken to hospital.

His injuries have been described by police as 'serious but non-life-threatening'.

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman said: "Police were called at around 8.15pm on Tuesday 18 May to a report of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Atherton Road, Hindley Green.

"The pedestrian - a man in his 50s - suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

"The driver of the car remained at the scene.

"No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
