Man seriously injured after being stabbed with a knife in County Durham

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being attacked with a knife in County Durham.

The attack happened in Gilling Crescent, Darlington, at about 6.30pm on Saturday.

The male victim was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for treatment.

Police officers say they believe the stabbing was targeted and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward as they investigate what happened.

Detective Sergeant Claire Callaghan, of Durham Constabulary, said: “We would like to reassure residents that we believe this was a targeted incident and that there is no threat to the wider community.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 388 of July 17.
