Man seriously injured after being stabbed in early hours 'disturbance' in North Shields

A man left with stab wounds after a 'disturbance' in North Shields overnight is in a serious condition.

Detectives are investigating the assault and are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

At around 4am on Saturday, Northumbria Police were alerted by the ambulance service to an incident in the Spencer Street area.

Officers attended and found a 35-year-old man with stabbing injuries. He was taken to hospital where he remains with serious injuries.

An investigation has been launched into the incident and police are now appealing for witnesses to the disturbance.

Officers also want to hear from anyone who was passing through the area at the time to check their dashcam footage.

Detective Sergeant Steven Hakin said: “This is clearly a serious incident that has resulted in a man being taken to hospital with suspected stab wounds.

“We are determined to find out the circumstances surrounding the assault and ultimately ensure anyone responsible is brought to justice.

“We are now asking anyone who was walking in the area or passing in a vehicle between the hours of 2.30pm to 4am to get in touch if they assist in any way.

“Your information, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, could prove the crucial link in our ongoing investigation.”

Officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries and offer any reassurance to residents.
