Man seriously injured after being attacked near scene of 'illegal rave' in Glasgow

A man was rushed to hospital and has been left seriously injured after an assault that took place in the wake of a late night 'illegal rave' at a Shisha venue in Glasgow.

Videos doing the rounds on social media show dozens of R&B fans enjoying a gig in the south side of the city on Saturday night.

The event took place at the Velvet Lounge in Kilbirnie Street.

Glasgow musician AB, real name Abdull Oun, has shared footage of himself on Instagam as he took to the stage to perform new song 'Right Now' as fans crowded together in front of him.

Shortly after the gig ended, a 24-year-old was found injured on Kilbirnie Street before being taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Glasgow in the early hours of Sunday morning.

It is understood police are now investigating if the assault is linked to the event at the Velvet Lounge.

The videos shared on Instagram shows the venue, described on Facebook as a lounge/dessert shop, rammed with revellers who were not adhering to social distancing or wearing face masks.

When contacted by the Daily Record, Velvet Lounge staff said they were unable to comment at this time.

A spokesperson told the Scottish Sun that bosses had hired the lounge out to some "London grime artists".

They added: "Social distancing rules and regulations were all stated in the contract.

"I can't comment how they may or may not have followed guidelines."

Police were called to reports of the injured man on Kilbirnie Street at around 3.05am and are appealing to the public for information.

Detective Inspector Lynsey Watters, of Cathcart CID, said: "Officers are checking all available CCTV and carrying out door-to-door enquiries to identify the person or persons responsible.

"I am appealing to anyone who was on Kilbirnie Street or the surrounding streets around this time who may have witnessed the assault, saw somebody running away or saw any suspicious activity to contact the police.

"I would also ask anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving in the area at the time to check back and see if there is anything that could assist us in our investigation."
