Man ‘seriously injured’ after allegedly attacking train passengers with axe

  • A man attacked and slightly injured four people with an axe on an ICE express train travelling from southern Germany towards Vienna on Thursday.
  • The incident occurred between Straubing and Plattling in Bavaria, with approximately 500 people on board the train.
  • A man was overpowered by fellow passengers and subsequently detained by police, with authorities saying he “is probably somewhat more seriously injured” than the victims of the attack.
  • Emergency services, including around 150 police officers, firefighters, and paramedics, were deployed to the scene, leading to the closure of the railway line.
  • A special care centre was established for passengers, and psychological caregivers were on hand to assist those traumatised by the event.
