Man seriously injured after Asda delivery van crash with two cars

A major road has been closed after a smash between an Asda delivery van and two cars.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A506 Bank Lane in Melling at around 9.50am morning after reports of a three vehicle collision involving a silver Vauxhall, an Asda delivery van and a black Volkswagen Golf.

Pictures from the scene, between Prescot Road and Shevingtons Lane, show the Asda van sandwiched between the severely damaged Volkswagen to the front and the Vauxhall at the back.

It appears the black vehicle collided head on with the van.

Merseyside Police said the male driver of the Volkswagen had been taken to hospital by ambulance with what are described as "serious injuries."

The road was closed in both directions and was affecting traffic heading between Kirkby and the M58.
