Man seriously hurt in house fire arrested on suspicion of arson

A man who was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a house fire in Wigan has been arrested on suspicion of arson.

Emergency services were called to Eckersley Street at around 9pm on Wednesday evening (January 12) following reports of a fire at a property.

A 30-year-old male was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Police said the man was later arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

He has since been bailed.

Police have asked for anyone with information or footage of the area at the time to get in touch.

A GMP spokesperson said: “Police were called shortly after 9pm on Wednesday (12 January) to a report of a fire at a property on Eckersley Street, Wigan.

“Emergency services attended and a male, aged 30, was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

“He was later arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
