Around six police cars closed the main road and an air ambulance landed in a nearby park.

Crime Scene Investigators (CSI) attended the scene and a police cordon was put in place.

Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted about the road closure, saying it was due to a 'police led incident'.

Bus operator Stagecoach tweeted that the road had reopened at around 2.15pm.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Anyone with information can call 0161 856 1146 or report it online or by using our LiveChat service at www.gmp.police.uk.

"Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

An air ambulance was called to the scene, eyewitnesses said.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said: "An ambulance, a helimed crew, an advanced paramedic and a response vehicle attended a police incident on Oldham Road, Collyhurst, at 13.35.

"We have taken a patient to the hospital by road."
