An investigation has been launched after a 60-year-old man was assaulted on his doorstep in a seemingly unprovoked attack in Dumfries.
The incident took place at around 9:10 pm on Friday when the man was confronted and seriously assaulted at his home on Goldie Avenue.
A man described as being around six feet tall, with a muscular, athletic build, and wearing dark clothing, is said to have run away following the assault.
The 60-year-old did not require hospital treatment after being assaulted.
Officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries and are checking any available CCTV footage for any additional information.
Detective Constable Scott Ruddick said: "There is currently no known motive for this attack.
"I'm sure people in the area will have heard or seen this disturbance and I would appeal to them to contact us with any information.
"In particular, I would ask motorists who were in the area to check their dash cam footage as it may have captured images which could assist our enquiries."
