Man sentenced for domestic attack in Aurora

A 40-year-old man was sentenced to six years in prison for beating his estranged wife in west suburban Aurora in 2017.

Tavares Sanders, of Humboldt Park, was convicted of aggravated domestic battery causing great bodily harm and domestic battery, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.

On late Jan. 25 and early Jan. 26, 2017, Sanders went to his estranged wife’s home and accused her of infidelity, the state’s attorney’s office said. He beat her, slammed her head into a wall and gave her a black eye.

Sanders fled when the woman threatened to call police, prosecutors said. She followed him outside, and he threw her to the sidewalk, leaving her with a “severe gash” to her forehead.

At the time of the attack, Sanders was on parole for a 2015 domestic battery conviction, the state’s attorney’s office said.

He must serve at least 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole, the state’s attorney’s office said. He received credit for 616 days served in the Kane County jail.
