Man sentenced for assault after incident in Warmley

A man who admitted an assault in Warmley has been sentenced.

Daniel Bennett, 20, of Hampton Close in Cadbury Heath, pleaded guilty to assaulting Nicola Lawrence in October last year.

Bristol Crown Court heard how Ellis Kow, 18, drove Bennett to Miss Lawrence's home in Neads Drive.

On the day of a planned trial Bennett pleaded guilty to assault in a fracas that ensued.

The recorder Mr Roger Harris handed him a 12 months community order, with 150 hours' unpaid work and 20 days' rehabilitation plus an £85 victim surcharge.

Mr Kow faced trial and was cleared of dangerous driving.

He told a jury when a struggle broke out a man tried to get at him in his VW Golf.

He said that, as he tried to leave the scene, another man clambered onto his bonnet and was striking at his car with a metal pole.

He described how he swerved, dropping the man from his bonnet, and drove off.

The Golf ended up with a smashed rear window, damaged door mirror, cracked windscreen, as well as dents and scratches.

His case was that he was simply trying to drive away after the altercation involving Bennett.
