Man sentenced at court for having cocaine in his home with £13k street value

A Moodiesburn man who had thousands of pounds worth of cocaine in his home has been tagged.

Richard Grigor, 35, admitted possessing £13,000 worth of the Class A substance in his Bridgeburn Drive property.

During Grigor’s sentencing at Airdrie Sheriff Court last month, the procurator fiscal said: “Police attended the locus after gaining a search warrant due to the suspicion of drugs being in the property.

“The search produced bags of white powder in the accused’s room.

“It was cocaine weighing around 130g.

“The total street value was £13,000.”

Grigor’s defence solicitor said: “He’s a 35-year-old who is in full-time employment and has nothing else outstanding.

“He understands the effect of this scale of offending on the wider community.

“When he became unemployed he got involved in this.

“He’s a vulnerable individual but is back in employment now.

“It’s a positive report given the seriousness of this matter.

“The reality of this is that he felt he didn’t have another way to get out of the debt he was in.”

Sheriff Pieri told Grigor: “I am only just persuaded not to impose a custodial sentence.

“You’ll be tagged for nine months and must remain in your home between the hours of 7pm to 7am each night.

“You’ll also carry out 240 hours of unpaid work in the next 12 months.”
