Man sentenced after being stopped while driving 'suspicious' car

A man pleaded guilty to a number of offences after police spotted a 'suspicious' car. Officers stopped the vehicle in the Clifton area during the early hours of Saturday (October 1).

Following checks, it was discovered the car had been taken from the Ruddington area in August, according to Nottinghamshire Police. Steven Sunderland, aged 32, of no fixed abode, appeared before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 3.

He pleaded guilty to taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent and was given a community order. Sunderland also admitted possession of a Class B drug, failure to stop, theft from a motor vehicle and driving without insurance or a licence.

He was also fined £300 and ordered to pay court costs. Inspector Rob Lawton, Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for Rushcliffe, said: “This was excellent proactive police work from the officers on patrol and the neighbourhood team.

“We understand the significant impact vehicle crime can have on victims, both in terms of the financial impact and also how being without a vehicle can disrupt their daily activities.”
