Man sent flying into the air during crash on the Strand

A cyclist was sent flying into the air after colliding with a car on the Strand.

Footage of the horrifying crash was shared with the ECHO, showing the man riding onto the Strand from James Street and straight into a moving car.

The video, which was filmed by a nearby motorist, shows the shocking moment the cyclist was hit as he rode into the path of oncoming traffic after weaving across one section of the busy road with another cyclist.

After reaching the central reservation, the cyclists continue across the northbound section of the Strand at speed.

A vehicle travelling along the road then collided with the cyclist, sending him and his bike flying into the air while those in the vehicle where the footage was filmed shouted in horror.

In the video, one passenger can be heard shouting: "Oh my God he's just knocked the geezer straight off his bike there."

The other cyclist can then be seen rushing over to his friend who had been knocked over.

Shortly after, the two walk away from the scene.

The man who filmed the horrific collision said the crash occurred at around 8.52pm along the Strand in Liverpool city centre on October 8.

He said: "I was on Strand road turning right into James Street.

"I didn't see it at that moment what happened, I just seen the lad in the air then he fell down and stood up straight away.

"We could not believe it that he survived that impact.

"The driver of the car had a green light on the main road. The driver of the car was shaken and scared."

Merseyside Police were contacted for comment and it is understood there was an emergency presence on the scene.

The man said: "I went there after [and] police were there as well."

He says he wants to share the footage to "warn others to be more careful on their bikes."
