Man sees own car drive past house, detains alleged thief

A man who saw his own missing ute drive past his house has detained the alleged thief until police arrived.

Police say the car owner was at his Sellicks Beach home south of Adelaide at about 9:40pm yesterday when he saw his work ute drive past.

He approached the slow-moving vehicle, grabbed hold of the driver and detained him until police arrived, sustaining a hand injury in the process.

The white Toyota Hilux was allegedly stolen during a break-in at an Aldinga Beach business on Friday.

A quantity of wine was also allegedly stolen.

Police say a 28-year-old man was arrested and charged with serious criminal trespass, illegal use of a vehicle and theft.

In a similar incident in Adelaide yesterday, a man saw his allegedly stolen BMW sedan on Hampstead Road at Clearview at about 12:25pm.

He contacted police and then followed the car 15 kilometres south to Westbourne Park.

Police stopped the car on Goodwood Road and the three occupants were arrested and charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle.
