A man who was reportedly shouting and waving two swords inside a shop was detained by armed police.
Emergency services were called to East Prescot Road in Old Swan , close to the junction of Queens Drive, shortly before 5.20pm to reports of a disturbance.
Officers were told that a man was brandishing two swords inside a shop across the road from the Navigator pub.
Pictures on social media showed armed police vehicles stopped on the road, blocking traffic, as officers attempted to defuse the situation.
One witness said that a man had been heard shouting shortly before police arrived.
She added: "He was shouting and waving the swords about but police arrived very quickly and dealt with it all in no time.
"I hope he gets the help he needs."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO : "Officers were called at 5.18pm to reports of a male causing a disturbance inside a shop on East Prescot Road.
"On arrival, armed police managed to detain the male before two swords were located inside the shop.
"No injuries were reported from the incident."
