Man screamed 'I'm dying' in the street after being brutally stabbed in the neck in afternoon horror

A man who was stabbed in the neck in a shocking daylight attack was left screaming 'I'm dying' in the street as blood ran down his arms.

The horrific scene was witnessed by people going about their daily business  at around 1.30pm this afternoon in Poulton Road, Wirral.

Merseyside Police have now arrested two people, a 20-year-old man and a 17-year-old male suspicion of Section 18 Wounding and taken to custody for questioning - after the incident which has spread fear around the local community.

The victim of the attack, a man in his 20s, has been taken to hospital for his injuries - which police do not believe are life-threatening.

One person who witnessed the terror first hand was local resident Pat Miller, who was shopping at the nearby Costcutter when the attack happened.

The 67-year-old, who lives near to the scene, said: “I was just doing my shopping and the guy at the till had just scanned everything when this guy ran in screaming and saying ‘my mate's been stabbed, my mate's been stabbed.

"I ran out and there was this poor guy lying on the floor.”

She added: “He had blood coming out of his neck and it was pouring down his arms. And he was shouting ‘I’m dying, I’m dying.

"The shop owner rang an ambulance and then the paramedics came.

"The police asked me if I wanted to go to hospital because I was that shocked.”

Another local resident told us that there had been trouble in the same area in recent months.

He said there had been shots fired at the window of a shop on the corner of the road on one occasion.

The attack caused shock in the local community - with children from a nearby primary school walking past the scene on their way home.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information which could assist the investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting log 487 of 21st October.
