Man scoops £1 million lottery win - and only buys a new vacuum cleaner

A man has scooped a massive £1 million prize on the Euromillions, but has only spent the winnings on a new vacuum cleaner.

Terry Falgate, 48, won the staggering amount on a £2.50 Lucky Dip ticket, the same night he watched his team Norwich City lose 2-0.

The 48-year-old said he bought a round of drinks for everyone in the Sutton Staithe, before walking home to Stalham, Norfolk.

Terry revealed that his only purchase with the cash was a new Dyson, costing him almost £500.

He said: “I'd had an argument with it.

"I went to empty it, the lid snapped, stuff went everywhere, and I thought I can now go and buy a different hoover.

"It's all I've bought."

The father-of-two said that he ‘wouldn't have looked’ at the top-of-the-range model before his win, adding: "They are unbelievable."

He plans to keep his Peugeot 308 and stay in his mortgaged three-bedroom semi, though he will search for ‘something with a little bit more of a garden for me and the dog’ in the local area.

Terry said that the win will also help his two daughters, both of which are in their early twenties, with deposits for their own houses.

Terry also said that his win ‘just makes life a little easier’, adding that he was ‘elated and shocked’ after finding out.

He said: "It was a normal Friday in the pub, having a few beers, watched Norwich lose again, checked the lottery ticket after the loss and found out we'd won.

"It wasn't the best of games to be fair but it was all good in the end, for me anyway."
