Man saves his nail clippings for a year and turns them into 'diamond' engagement ring

Tradition dictates that a man should save up three month's salary to spend on buying an engagement ring for his beau.

So imagine the shock on one bride-to-be's face when her potential groom decided he''d make a saving of a different kind to impress his beloved.

The man spent not just three months saving cash, but an entire year collecting his nail clippings to turn into a "diamond" ring instead.

The whole process was shared on Twitter in a disturbing viral video by SCMP News.

The South China Morning Post reported that a Japanese man, who creates videos on YouTube under the name Kwami Japan, collected his fingernail clippings for 365 days and filmed the process of them being turned into a piece of jewellery.

Once he had collected a sufficient amount of clippings, the man started by putting them into a blender.

However, this didn't give the desired consistency, so he then ground them into a very fine powder, before mixing with water in a pan.

Bake in oven for 90 minutes

The fourth step saw him compress the nail powder and water mixture and put it into an oven for 90 minutes.

What came out of the oven can only be described as looking like a lump of dark clay.

The man took the mixture and put it into a diamond-shaped mould before inserting it into a silver ring - which he also made himself.

When all was done, the finished product was a ring with a dull black stone, which thankfully looked nothing like fingernails.

SCMP News' video has been watched over 189,000 times and had hundreds of likes and shares.

Many people were disgusted by the footage, even going as far as to brand it "hell".

One person commented: "The f*** did I just watch?"

Another joked: "Nothing says romance quite like ground up fingernails."

A third said: "That's nasty bruh."

Someone else added: "That's just flat out gross."
