Man saved from Glasgow canal after major emergency services response

A man has been saved from a canal after a major emergency services response.

The incident occurred at the Forth & Clyde Canal near Rotherwood Avenue in Glasgow around 11.20pm on Sunday August 1.

Local residents from the Knightswood area of the city took to social media to describe the events of the night.

One said: "2 police vans, an ambulance and an incident response vehicle have just sped past us on Great Western Road, heading west."

Another local suggested: "I'm thinking someone is possibly in the canal, 2 fire engines and 2 boat rescue came back down Baldwin, it could be a hoax call as it happens a lot up here."

A concerned resident added: "Something is wrong, hope nobody is in the canal."

The unidentified man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment but his condition currently remains unknown.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of concern for a man in the Forth and Clyde Canal near Rotherwood Avenue in Glasgow around 11.20pm on Monday, 1 August.

“The man was safely helped from the water and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”
