Man saved by his bag after out of control car almost pins him to takeaway window

A young man was nearly killed by an out-of-control van that spun onto the pavement in a multi-car crash.

Zak McCabe was passing a pizza takeaway in Dover when a people carrier slammed him into the shop window after the motor ricocheted off other vehicles.

Disturbing footage shows the boxer defending himself, while his lower body is inches from the body of the car, from the waist up he is pushed at force by the vehicle and it sweeps him off his feet.

Though the motor squashes him against the exterior of the takeaway, it somehow didn't crush him. Thankfully, a tote bag strung over his shoulder cushioned him from the glass.

The car then appears to crash into something else. A license plate and wing-mirror can be seen shattered across the ground.

A shocked Mr McCabe staggered into the takeaway and the CCTV camera can be seen shaking.

The video was posted on YouTube and a woman writing under the name Maddie McCabe commented: "That's my brother. My poor Zak."

Three vehicles reportedly collided and damaged a building in the incident yesterday evening at around 7.30pm.

One of the vehicles narrowly missed ploughing into a chemist and a busy pizza parlour causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

One of the cars towed away showed its entire engine exposed and on fire.

Fire crews and paramedics were called to the scene.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "We were called to a report of a collision involving three vehicles at 4.30pm on Friday 3 January 2020.

"Damage to a building has also been reported.

"Officers are attending the scene on the A256 London Road, Dover and have closed the road from the junction of Beaconsfield Road.

"Kent Fire and Rescue Service, and the South East Coast Ambulance Service are also in attendance."
