Man savagely attacks laundrette worker with hammer in botched robbery on CCTV

A 70-year-old laundrette worker was attacked with a hammer in a vicious attack after he caught a robber red handed.

Caught on CCTV, the hammer-wielding man can be seen snatching items as he walks around between the washing machines at the Aqua Wash laundromat in Brownsville, New York.

At about 5am, the attacker can be seen grabbing what appears to be bottles of bleach without paying, and he was spotted by the elderly worker.

The worker walks over to try and stop the man from leaving, but he grabs a hammer and repeatedly whacks the man with the weapon.

The footage shows the elderly man hit over and over again by the much younger man.

The suspect stumbled and dropped his goods on the floor, but allegedly ran off with the hammer.
