Man said up to £36,000 of cannabis was for his grandmother to use

A man who was caught growing cannabis plants at his Bulwell home said it was for his grandmother to use.

John-Paul Blasdale appeared in court where he admitted producing and supplying the drug.

Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting, told Nottingham Magistrates' Court that the plants could have produced cannabis worth between £12,000 and £36,000 on the streets.

James Buckley, mitigating, said: "His explanation is that he supplied his elderly grandmother who is seriously ill. That was apart from his own use."

District Judge Leo Pyle sent the case to Nottingham Crown Court where Blasdale is due to be sentenced on January 10. He granted bail to Blasdale on condition that he co-operates with probation officers.

The judge told him: "You need to attend all appointments with the probation service for a pre-sentence report which will assist the judge.

"Obviously it is in your interests for the judge to have the full picture and the background."

Blasdale admitted producing a Class B drug - cannabis - at a property on Ockerby Street, Bulwell between May 1 and 9.

He also pleaded guilty to supplying the drug and possession of the drug at the same address.

Blasdale, 37, gave his current address as Grasby Walk, Clifton.
