Man safely rescued from roof of two-storey Northern Quarter museum

Firefighters brought a man down from the roof of a museum building during a dramatic lunchtime rescue in Manchester city centre today (June 29).

Emergency services were called to the corner of Newton Street and Faraday Street, in the Northern Quarter, shortly after 12pm.

There were reports of a man on the roof of the two-storey Greater Manchester Police Museum.

Officers from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service were on the scene for around 90 minutes, and brought the man down safely.

Greater Manchester Police also attended the incident.

Four police vehicles and a fire engine were at the scene for just under an hour.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers were called to a report of a man on the roof of the Police Museum at 12.10pm on Tuesday (June 29)," they said.

"The fire service attended and the man was brought down safely at 12.52pm."

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “At approximately 12.15pm on Tuesday, June 29, we were called to assist Greater Manchester Police at an incident on Newton Street in Manchester.

“Two fire engines from Manchester Central and Philips Park stations quickly attended the scene.

"Fire crews helped a man from the roof of a building before he was transferred to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service.

"Firefighters were in attendance for approximately 90 minutes.”
