Man 'safe' after police and firefighters called to incident on the Tyne Bridge

Police and fire crews have helped to bring a man to safety following an incident on the Tyne Bridge.

The incident unfolded on Saturday evening, with fire engines and other emergency service vehicles parked up on the northbound side of the bridge.

Northumbria Police confirmed officers were called to reports of a man on the bridge.

Force staff told ChronicleLive the man was now safely "with officers" and that the incident was coming to a conclusion.

At least three fire engines, along with an incident response vehicle, were visible on the bridge.

Traffic was able to continue moving, albeit slower, as they worked on bringing it to a safe conclusion.

ChronicleLive approached Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue for comment.
