Man's unexpected find on Google Street Maps brings a smile to people's faces

A man's unexpected find on Google Street Maps has brought a smile to faces as he shared a picture of his late Nan, standing next to his grandad. Mike Doyle was using the street view feature that allows you to see old images taken when Google's car camera drives past an address.

He came across a photo of his grandad alongside his late nan, reports The Echo.

Sharing the snap on Twitter, Mike said: "My Nan passed away in 2015, so it’s great to see Google Maps have recently added a feature to see old street views, like this one of her going out with my Grandad in 2012.

"My Grandad still lives on to this day, at 90 and he’ll be made up when I show him this."

Twitter users were touched by the story. Layla said: "Love this Mike" with a tearful emoji, while James said: "Amazing". Clare Cooney said "That is so cute xx", and Kath said: "Ah Mike that's boss".

Ken said: "Thank you for posting this, I’ve just put my old address into it and there’s my dad up a ladder outside the house, I lost him almost 8 years ago and it’s absolutely made my day!"

Google Street View allows you to see images of almost any address in the country, taken by vehicles that drive past with a camera on the roof, and sometimes by people with cameras mounted on backpacks.

The images are updated every few years, and if you click on the menu at the top left of the image you can roll back and see previous pictuies.
