Man's Tweet leads to creation of brand new beer as Aldi and Brewdog combine forces

Aldi and Brewdog have settled their differences following a Twitter spat - and it couldn't have worked out better.

As a result of the, mostly, good natured argument a new - limited edition - beer will be available at Aldi from Thursday.

The better news, for every case of ALD IPA sold, a tree will be planted in Brewdog's new forrest - meaning you can buy them knowing you're helping the environment too.

And it all started with an argument on social media.

Back in August an Aldi customer shared a picture of the German discounter's new "Anti Establishment IPA" and pointed out it appeared to be rather similar to BewDog's signature Punk IPA.

Never shy to step into some online fun, the Tweet caught the eye of BrewDog co-founder founder James Watt.

Responding in typical style, the former lawyer tweeted a picture of a mocked up 'new beer' called Yaldi in response.

Aldi wasn't backing down though, replying with: "We would have gone with 'ALD IPA'. Send us a crate and we'll talk."

But while many thought it might well end there, Brewdog went ahead and did just that - with the finished product heading to a middle aisle near you this week.

And the two companies seem to have taken everything in the spirit it was intended.

Aldi's Julie Ashfield said: “We couldn’t resist stocking ALD IPA, which supports our mission to work with the UK’s best independent suppliers.

"Plus, with customer enquiries through the roof after the conversation broke on Twitter - it really was a no brainer to give our shoppers what they want.”

Brewdog's Watt sounds like he had fun too, saying: “Ald IPA has been one of our favourite collaborations to date, it’s definitely one no one saw coming!

"From a mock-up on Twitter, to being stocked at Aldi stores across the UK, the response has been incredible."

The new beer costs £1.39 for a 330ml can (4.7% ABV), with the flavour based on BrewDog’s Hop Fiction recipe.
