Man's odd hotel request goes viral after staff set up 'apple game' in room

A man who sent an unusual request to hotel staff has gone viral after they responded in the most hilarious way.

TikTok user Tommy ( @tommymodeactivated ) sent an email to NOVOTEL in Melbourne where he was due to stay for a few nights asking them to "hide" an apple in his suite to help 'take his mind off work'.

He wrote in his message: "Hi there, I'll be staying two nights with you from Thursday 31/10 to Saturday 02/11 and was wondering if I could ask a favour?

"It may seem a little strange, but can you please hide an apple somewhere in my room for me to find? I travel often, and these small games help take my mind off work and lower my stress levels.

"The type of apple doesn't concern me as I enjoy them all," he continued, although he admitted he "didn't quite care for" a 'Papple' (a pear/apple hybrid apparently).

He then signed off the email, "best, Tom."

The hotel said they'd do their best to accommodate him. (@tommymodeactivated/TikTok)

The hotel replied later that day saying that they would do their best to accommodate his request - and they didn't disappoint.

When he arrived at the hotel, the lady at reception "laughed" when she saw his name and said "so you're the apple boy?" before telling him that five apples had been hidden in his room.

After setting his bag down, he found a handwritten note on his bed, which read: "Dear Thomas, home is where apples are hidden and water is in plain sight. Let me know how many apples you find. Franzi," - and so the hunt began.

He found the first apple in the safe, the second under the bed covers, the third in the fridge and the fourth in a drawer in the bedside cabinet

But after searching "far too long" for the fifth apple, he gave up.

The next morning when he woke up, he continued his search, and eventually found the hidden apple in the kettle.

The video has since gone viral, amassing a staggering 9.2 million views, 1.8 million likes and almost 7,000 comments from people who praised the employee's efforts.

One person said: "That's good customer service."

Another wrote: "Good way to get free snacks."

A third put: "She really went above and beyond for this one."

"Omg why does this make me so happy?" asked a fourth.

Someone in the comments claimed to know Franzi, the lady who hid the apples and said she was a family friend.
