Man's leg broken in sickening attack after visiting McDonald's with girlfriend

A man was assaulted in the street in Walton after an early morning visit to McDonald's with his female partner.

Officers were called to Lynwood Road at 3.50am following reports a man in his 40s had been assaulted and had an injury to his leg.

It is believed the man and his female partner had been in the McDonald's on Rice Lane at around 3.30am and had been walking home when they got into an argument with two men.

The men are then believed to have followed the couple to Lynwood Road where the assault took place.

The man suffered an injury to his right leg and was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg.

The two males are believed to made off on foot to Glenbank Close where they got into a dark blue Transit-style van and made off onto Rice Lane in the direction of Walton Vale.

Both males were wearing dark clothing and had their faces covered. One was described as tall and slim and the second shorter and slightly stocky.

An investigation is underway and house-to-house and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

Detective Inspector Judith Blease said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around Rice Lane, Lynwood Road or Glenbank Close and saw either the men or the vehicle described to get in touch.

"I would also ask for any motorists who were in the area and who may have captured something on dash-cam footage to contact us as they may have information which is vital to our investigation."

Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 19100333625.
