People baffled by 'insane' optical illusion tattoo that looks like giant hole in head

A skilled tattoo artist has taken his talent to another level after creating an optical illusion inking on his client's bald head that looks like a giant gaping hole.

Matt Pehrson, who works at the Zion Tattoo Company in Utah, US, went to new extremes with an incredible piece of art that he designed for his friend, Ryan.

The talented artist inked a series of thick black lines onto the back of Ryan's skull, to give the impression of a massive hole in the middle of his head.

Thanks to his clever shading technique, Matt managed to baffle thousands of his Instagram followers and racked up viral attention online.

Matt shared his eye-catching piece of work on Instagram where it was dubbed the 'most insane optical illusion' (@mattpehrsontattoos/Jam Press)

The picture, which was originally posted on his Instagram account back in April 2020, recently re-emerged online and has received over 12,000 likes.

Matt captioned it: "Did a crazy thing on my friend Ryan today... We have a lot left to finish on his dome. What do you all think of a piece like this?"

One fan commented: "Literally looks like he has a hole in the back of his head holy s*** good job", while a second said: "OMG that looks fantastic!!!!"

A third put: "This is the most insane optical illusion", and another wrote: "I am speechless".

Then last year, after "tonnes of requests", Matt posted a video of the finished piece to show the tat from multiple angles.

"Of course, the tattoo only looks 'perfect' at a limited viewing angle. Still looks like a rad tattoo from other angles, it just doesn't make your tummy hurt," he explained.

"I had so many comments that this tattoo made people sick. I laughed at every one," Matt added.

The clip was met with immense praise again, with one follower writing: "You killed this", and another saying: "Absolutely stunning from every angle".

"Forced perspective is hard enough on a canvas, never mind a human head! DUDE. You should get an award for this!" a third commented.
