British dishes often get lost in translation, it is a sad but true fact. Earlier this year, tourists were left gobsmacked after ordering fish and chips in America, only to be served with fish and crisps. But it turns out there's another dish Brits ought to be wary of when ordering across the pond: toad in a hole.
A man has been left furious after spotting the meal on a menu in America, before realising the dish was completely different than the British classic customers might have expected, based on the name. Posting to TikTok as @ajslambino, the food reviewer shared his shock after seeing a café serving "toad in a hole" sandwiches.
"Does that say Toad in a Hole," the onscreen caption read, as the video zoomed in on the menu board.
But any eagle-eyed visitors would quickly realise something was wrong. The dish does not include sausages or Yorkshire puddings as you might expect; in fact, neither are included in the sandwich.
Instead, the meal includes a bagel served with eggs, guacamole, and tomatoes, as the menu highlights.
Having ordered the toad in a hole to try, the reviewer questioned: "WTF is this?" "Such disrespect to my British friends," he added.
The video went viral, amassing over 18,000 likes. But it is fair to say many viewers were left outraged by the discovery.

One commenter said: "Omg thats a crime against the uk." A second wrote: "As a British person.. I’m highly offended."
And another agreed: "Sir you take that back and you throw it at them …. The disrespect." Someone else added: "Imagine serving this to a British person."
In response, the foodie replied: "I was mad and I’m not even British." However, others pointed to the name of the dish, suggesting the café had not made the error.
"There’s the mistake: you asked for toad in A hole, not toad in THE hole," read one such reply. But another commenter thought: "The name and the dish is wrong."
