Man's disbelief at final bill after celebrating birthday with five family members in restaurant

A man who was celebrating his birthday at a city restaurant was left shocked when he asked a waiter for the final bill.

Andy Yates was out with five other family members when the time came to settle up.

But rather than being presented with a big bill for the evening, they were instead told that a man, who was also dining in the restaurant, had paid £160 towards their meal.

Andy now wants to thank the man who left "a large sum of money" behind at Mei Mei Chinese Restaurant on Berry Street, Liverpool, to put towards the bill.

The Liverpool Echo reported that Andy shared what happened on Facebook, saying: "I'm severely disabled. My family and I went to Mei Mei's on Berry St for a birthday meal.

"Six of us had a lovely meal and when we went to pay for it we were informed that a gentleman who had just eaten in there with his own family had left a large sum (£160) of money to put towards our meal.

"I don't know this gentleman whatsoever myself but if you do, please pass on my sincere thanks. There's some very generous people in this city xx."

Andy's post has received more than 2,000 likes and more than 180 shares, with many people taking to the comments to praise the kind gesture. One person said: "What a lovely gesture, proud to be a Scouser reading this. Thank you kind and thoughtful gentleman. Restores your faith in good people."
