Man's death in Bristol is 'unexplained' say police

Police are treating the death of a man in the centre of Bristol this morning as ‘unexplained’.

Paramedics were called to a man found unconscious in Red Cross Lane, an alley off Old Market, at 6am on Saturday, December 14.

They called for police after a large crowd had gathered at the scene. The man was pronounced dead at the site.

A police cordon was put in place and remained into the daylight hours on Saturday morning. The lane is close to the 24 hour shop in Old Market, and would have been busy even at that time late in the night.

It is understood, police are still trying to establish the man's full identity and next of kin, and have not released any name.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police confirmed the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

“Police attended to support ambulance crews attending a medical emergency due to the number of people in the area,” she said. “The man sadly died at the scene.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained and officers are making enquiries on behalf of the coroner,” she added.
