Man's car seized by police after driving from Tier 4 in London to Gloucestershire

A man's car was seized by police after he drove from Tier 4 in London to Gloucestershire.

Officers stopped the car in St John's Lane in the centre of Gloucester on Boxing Day, reports and discovered the man had come to the city to visit friends.

The Glos Police Specialist Operation division said on Twitter on December 26: "E shift just stopped this car. Driver was disqualified, no insurance or tax.

"He had travelled from London (Covid Tier 4) to visit friends in Glos. Reported and vehicle seized."

The man had travelled from London, which is in Tier 4, to Gloucester, which is currently in Tier 3, reports Gloucestershire Live.

The rules state those in Tier 4 should not leave their local area unless it is for a select few essential reasons, such as for work or education.

Christmas rules had only been relaxed for Christmas Day itself, and unfortunately those in Tier 4 areas weren't even allowed to mix with other households for this one day.

The general message for Tier 4 areas is "stay at home".

Reasons you can go out include to buy groceries or obtain services from businesses that are still allowed to open, for work, education, volunteering or medical reasons, for exercise or to meet up with one other person in an outside public space.
