Man's body recovered from river after flooding

A man's body has been recovered from a swollen river after a police search.

North Wales Police confirmed the update after the search was carried out in Abergwyngregyn.

The Gwynedd village was flooded at the weekend after the river burst its banks for the second time since August.

The alarm was raised shortly before 4pm on Tuesday (October 6) officers were informed that a man had fallen into the river.

The emergency services attended including the coastguard and members of the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team and a search began.

A statement from North Wales Police said: "Sadly, just before 7.15pm the body of a man was recovered from the water."

The man’s next of kin have been informed.

Detective Chief Inspector Alun Oldfield, North Wales Police said: “Our heartfelt sympathies are with the man’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. They will now be supported by a trained Family Liaison Officer.

“An investigation is now underway to establish what happened, and as such we are unable to make any further comment.”

North Wales Police said they were not yet in a position to release further details.
