Man's body recovered after search operation at Ormeau Bridge

A man's body has been recovered following a search operation at the Ormeau Bridge last night.

The emergency services closed off a section of Ormeau Road and Ormeau Embankment at around 9.20pm last night, after receiving reports of concern for the safety of a man in the river.

A helicopter and search and rescue boats were also deployed to the scene.

Sadly a man's body was later recovered from the water.

A post mortem is scheduled to take place.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police received a report last night (Wednesday 14th October), shortly after 9.20pm, for the concern for safety of a man in the Ormeau River near the Ormeau Road in Belfast.

"Police and other emergency services responded. Sadly, a man's body was later recovered from the water.

"A post mortem is scheduled to take place.

"There are no further details at this time."
