Man's body pulled from Welsh river

A man has died following an incident in a river. North Wales Police have confirmed that a man's body was recovered from the River Dee at Pontcysyllte near Llangollen in Denbighshire on Saturday, August 13. It was one of the warmest days of the year with Wales in the grip of a heatwave.

In a statement North Wales Police said: "Officers attended a concern for safety incident at the river at Pontcysyllte on Saturday afternoon alongside colleagues from NPAS, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, North East Wales Search and Rescue, and Welsh Ambulance Services Trust. Sadly the body of a man was recovered. His family are currently being supported by officers and inquiries are ongoing on behalf of HM Coroner."

Many people paid their respects on the force's Facebook post. "Heartbreaking, thinking of his family at this very sad time," wrote Jill Howell. Diane Ellis added: "So sad, thank you emergency services for trying. Thoughts are with family and friends. RIP."
