The body of a man has been recovered from a Glasgow canal overnight.

Police divers made the grim discovery during a search at Maryhill Locks in the north of the city.

The incident began at about 7.30pm on Wednesday following reports of someone in the water.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called to the canal side at Cowal Road, Maryhill, Glasgow, around 6pm on Wednesday, 17 June, following a report of a man having entered the water.

“The body of a 31-year-old man was subsequently recovered by the Police Scotland Dive and Marine Unit.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
