Man's body pulled from River Clyde near Erskine Bridge

The body of a man has been recovered from the River Clyde near the Erskine Bridge.

Emergency services were called to the bridge just after 11am and the A898 was closed in both directions.

Police Scotland confirmed a body had been found.

A spokesperson said: “Police Scotland can confirm that the body of a man has been recovered from the River Clyde near the Erskine Bridge.

“The man is yet to identified and enquiries and are ongoing to establish the full circumstances relating to this incident.

“Concerns were initially raised shortly before 11am and the man was recovered following a search involving Police Scotland, HM Coastguard and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“The Erskine Bridge has now reopened to traffic in both directions and motorists are thanked for their patience.”

The incident caused huge delays with heavy traffic backed up on both the M8 and A82 approaches.
