Man's body found on Wirral beach as police called to scene

A man's body was found on a Wirral beach in what police are currently describing as an 'unexplained' death.

Police confirmed the sad discovery at West Kirby and are making enquiries to identify the man and inform his next of kin.

One eyewitness said: "We were there when it was discovered and all the police arrived. We saw them covering the body and carrying it off the beach.

"It's just so very sad."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm emergency services are in attendance following the discovery of a man’s body on West Kirkby Beach this afternoon, Friday, March 12.

"A report was received at around 12.35pm that a body had been seen on the beach.

"Emergency services arrived and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"At this time the death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and inform his next of kin."
