Man’s body found lying on road underwater for two weeks in flood-hit town

A man's body has been discovered on a road in Doncaster that under floodwater for two weeks.

The body was recovered from a road in Yorkshire that had been underwater for weeks following the floods that devastated South Yorkshire earlier this month.

Police are investigating after finding the man's remains on Saturday afternoon and say the death is not being treated as suspicious.

The body was recovered from the street, which had been underwater since the River Don burst its banks, flooding homes, businesses and farms throughout Doncaster.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Enquiries are underway in Doncaster after the discovery of a man’s body.

“Police were called at around 2:15pm on Saturday November 23, following reports a body had been found on Fordstead Lane, Barnby Dun, Doncaster.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

Villages in South Yorkshire and East Midlands were left reeling following the 'biblical' rain earlier this month.

More than 1,200 homes were evacuated and former High Sheriff Annie Hall was swept to her death in the deluge.

A month's rain fell in just 24 hours and many homes and businesses later discovered their insurance did not cover for flood damage.

Police have not yet released information about the man's identity or whether he was reported missing.

The latest forecast for torrential rain is sparking fears of more flooding in some parts of England.

The Met Office has issued two weather warnings for today, tomorrow and Thursday, with heavy rain expected across Britain.

The worst of the weather is expected to hit Yorkshire again, just weeks after the region received a deadly battering.

The forecaster says the rains will be restricted to south-west England, south Wales and Yorkshire.

Most of the heaviest rain is due to fall further south.

A Met Office forecaster this morning said up to one-and-a-half inches of rain could fall in parts of south Wales and south-west England, potentially causing further flooding in those areas.
