Man's body found in Scots country park after major emergency service presence

A man's body has been found in a Scots country park days after a number of emergency services closed down the area. Multiple police vehicles and an ambulance were seen entering Monikie Country Park in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A cordon was established at the entrance to the park in Monikie, a few miles north-east of Dundee. The body of a 26-year-old man was found, however the death is not being treated as suspicious

Locals were turned away from the entrance by officers standing guard. However the park re-opened to the public at around 10.30am.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.25am on Wednesday, July 6, police were called after the body of a 26-year-old man was found within Monikie Park, Monikie, Angus. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

ANGUSalive, which operates the park on behalf of Angus Council, posted a message online advising the closure of the entire site on Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson thanked visitors for their understanding during the closure and announced the park re-opened late morning.

It comes after Monikie was targeted by firebugs in the early hours of Monday. Play equipment and a birdwatcher's hide were all torched, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.
