Man in custody after body found in car park near Hobart

Police were on the scene on Monday morning.

A 31-year-old man is continuing to help Tasmania Police with their inquiries in relation to the suspicious death of a man at Mornington in Tasmania's south early on Monday.

Detective Inspector Rebecca Davis said the body of a 34-year-old man was found in the car park of a block of units, situated on Hobart's Eastern Shore.

Police received a call for assistance relating to a "disturbance" at about 2:50 on Monday morning.

Forensic specialists, the Criminal Investigation Branch and uniform police remain at the scene doorknocking houses for information.

"The people in the area … have been extremely cooperative, they have assisted us in our inquiries and they're also being very tolerant of the disruption in their neighbourhood," she said.

Police weren't able to confirm if the man in custody was known to the victim or to police.

Detective Inspector Davis said the family of the deceased had been notified.

"For the family of the deceased it's a terrible time … Tasmania Police continue to offer our support as we move forward through the coming days."

A car found at the scene has been towed away.

Anyone with information in relation to the "movement of people in the neighbourhood" have been urged to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 or the website, or Bellerive CIB on 131 444.
