Man's body found in Montrose as forensic cops seal off road amid probe

Police have sealed off a road on the edge of the Angus town of Montrose after a man's body was discovered.

Officers have confirmed the nature of the grim find, reported on Esk Road in the Rossie Island area of the town.

Armed cops were reportedly seen in the area as early as 5.15am today.

Forensics officers have since been seen working in an area of land close to the railway bridge that runs over Montrose Basin.

One social media user wrote: "Armed police in Rossie island at 05.15 this morning outside a guest house."

It is understood that there is no threat to the wider public.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were called around 3.40am on Tuesday, 2 November, 2021, following the sudden death of a man in the Rossie Island Road area of Montrose.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
