Man's body found in children's play park as police investigate unexplained death

A man's body was found in a children's play park this morning, Merseyside Police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to Queens Park Recreation Centre, Boundary Road, just before 8am to reports of concern for the safety of a man.

Police and paramedics attended the scene in St Helens but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Merseyside Police confirmed enquiries are underway following the incident, with a spokeswoman for the force saying: "Although the death is not thought to be suspicious at this time it is being treated as unexplained."

Enquiries are ongoing to formally identify the man and inform his next of kin.

A post-mortem will be conducted to establish the cause of death.

Forensic officers from Merseyside Police could be seen working inside Queens Park in St Helens.

A number of people reported seeing a forensic tent inside the park, with one woman saying police had begun making door to door enquiries at properties neighbouring the park.

Queens Park borders a number of streets in St Helens, but police activity appears to be clustered around Dilloway Street, which is closest to the play area.

One resident reported seeing a police van and two cars in the area, with another woman claiming police told her they were called to the incident in the early hours of Sunday.
