Man's body found in canal in Risca

The body of a man has been found in a canal.

The grim discovery was made at around 7.40am on Saturday, September 11, with police receiving a call that a man had been found "unresponsive" in the water at Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal near Dixons Place, Risca.

Paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service attended and confirmed the man, who was 57, was dead. His next of kin have been informed and police have also confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A report has since been submitted to the coroner.

A Gwent Police spokeman said: "We were called to the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, near Dixons Place, Risca, at around 7.40am on Saturday September 11 to a report that a 57-year-old man had been found unresponsive.

"Paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service attended and confirmed that the man was dead. His next of kin have been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious. A report has been submitted to the coroner in relation to the death."

A inquest into the death is expected to be opened and adjourned before a full hearing next year.
