Man's body found in bushfire zone at Mt Gibson in WA's Mid West

A man's body has been found inside a vehicle on a fire ground in Western Australia's Mid West.

Firefighters made the grim discovery on Wednesday afternoon, after being called to fight the fire on Tuesday.

The bushfire, which a Department of Fire and Emergency Services [DFES] spokesman said started Wednesday, has so far burned through about 800 hectares in the Mount Gibson Reserve.

It is about 450 kilometres north-east of Perth and inland from Geraldton.

Arson Squad detectives and DFES fire investigators will attend the scene today to investigate the cause of the fire.

WA Police say the deceased man's role on the fire ground and the circumstances leading up to his death will form part of the investigation.

DFES listed the cause of the fire as lightning.
