Man's body found in bushes near Wallasey Tunnel as area cordoned off

A man's body has been found in bushes in Liverpool city centre close to the entrance of the Wallasey Tunnel.

Police have cordoned off the scene around Kingsway Park, following the discovery.

The man was found dead in bushes by Bestway Cash and Carry just before 12.55pm today.

An area of parkland off Great Nelson Street is currently cordoned off by police.

A section is under a blue cover and forensics officers have been seen combing the area for evidence.

The circumstances surrounding the man's death are not yet known.

Investigations are ongoing and police are working to identify the man's next of kin.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that officers are attending Kingsway Park in Liverpool today (Wednesday 21 April) following the discovery of a man's body.

"The man was sadly found in bushes by Bestway Cash and Carry shortly before 12.55pm and pronounced deceased at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and inform his next of kin."
